INTRODUCTION
Welcome
to the OPTIMA (Options in Management of Antiretrovirals) website.
OPTIMA is a research study to find the best
way to treat people who have taken a range of anti-HIV drugs in
several combinations and are now unsure what the best option is.
OPTIMA is the largest randomised controlled trial looking at this
issue.
OPTIMA is a collaborative study between the
Canadian Institute of Health Research, the Medical Research
Council in the UK and the Department of Veteran Affairs in the
USA.
On this site you will find three country-specific areas. While
the study is the same in each country the protocol has minor
differences in each. (Also in the UK a variation to the main
study called the Options in Optima pilot study, is being
undertaken to support recruitment.)
A publications and presentations area highlights the scientific
and methodological knowledge that has already been gained from
this study.
