Participants must:

Be able to consent to participate in the study
Be 18 years of age or more
Have laboratory evidence of HIV infection
Have a CD4+ cell count less than or equal to 300 cells/mm3 or CD4 percent less than or equal to 15%, and a viral load above 5,000 copies/ml
Have taken anti-HIV medicines at least for the last three months
Not be pregnant or breast-feeding
Have experienced the failure of at least two different multi-drug regimens that included drugs of all three classes
Not have a serious, uncontrolled opportunistic infection (OI) within 14 days of screening
Not be currently taking any of the following medications: amiodarone, astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, ergot derivatives, lovastatin, simvastatin, pimozide, propafenone, midazolam, triazolam, bepridil, clozapine, bupropion, rifampin, St. John's Wort or phenobarbital.
