Welcome to the OPTIMA (Options in Management of Antiretrovirals) website for people in the UK and Ireland.
The accrual phase of the OPTIMA study closed on 30 June 2006. This is the first collaboration between the Medical Research Council in the UK, Canadian Institute of Health Research in Canada and the Department of Veterans Affairs in the USA has enrolled 368 patients in total. There were 39 enrolments from the UK (28 randomised to the option 2), 41 in Canada and 288 in the USA. Together the enrolled patients form the largest group of patients interrupting therapy in salvage to be studied in detail. These patients will be in follow-up until the planned trial completion date of 31 Dec 2007.
